Nannies and Mother's Helpers

Our nannies and mother's helps are all experienced and or qualified. To register with us, we require a minimum of two written reference, but the more the better. A CV is requested and we need to know what the candidate has been doing since leaving school with no gaps. We do not discriminate with age, nationality or colour.

Our only interest is to find the right person for the job. In the case of candidates from non EC countries, they must have a valid work permit, right of abode or similar, with a National insurance number. Their standard of English must be of an understandable, fluent quality.

We check back verbally on as many of the references as possible, to ensure there are no read between the lines references. These references are provided to the prospective employer, along with any other information the candidate has provided Applejack with, for you to look at and to speak to previous employers your self.

Qualifications

Not all of our nannies or mother's helps are qualified, but the most common qualifications we come across are NVQ in Child Care and Education, which is a work based, placement and assessed course work qualification, the NNEB, placement and assessed coursework qualification, NAMCW. PPA, and BTEC National Diploma. This is not an exhaustive list and in no order of priority. Many overseas candidates may have similar qualifications. The main point to consider is whether the course was correspondence or hands on and assessed. If possible, we always try to speak to the course tutors of the candidates and if they present us with a an unfamiliar qualification, we simply check it out. We also require our candidates to have a CRB enhanced disclosure.

First Aid is strongly advised and if a candidate wants to refresh their First Aid or take a course, we can put them in touch with the relevant course centres.
We also ask about allergies the candidate may have-Cat hair is a popular problem!- and any health problems.

Candidates

We ask the candidate to be picky and choosy about the type of job they want to save any wasted time on the part of both parties. That way, when we forward a candidate to a client, we know that this type of position is definitely something they are interested in and they do want to interview with you.
