Duties
The duties of a nanny and a mother's help consist mainly of nursery duties. This is everything related to the care of the children and Applejack can provide guidance of what this includes when our information pack is sent out to you. We also provide guidance on current salaries of the day.
The main difference between a nanny and a mother's help, is experience. Most mother's helps are still learning their trade and therefore require a parent to be on hand or to train them into the job for a periods of time. They are not to be given sole charge of the children on day one of employment, as they are unlikely to have the skills to carry this out instantly. This also means the mother's help will be more flexible when it comes to helping around the house. She will not restrict herself to nursery duties only, but will pitch in generally. However this does not include heavy duty cleaning.
A nanny will be capable of sole charge and will care for the children unsupervised, taking on all aspects of nursery duties.

Important Note:
We make it clear that the nannies and mother's helps we provide for our clients, on any basis, temporary or permanent cannot be self employed.
It is the responsibility of the employer to take care of the Tax and NI contributions of the employer and the employee. Just as with any other type of employment, the employee needs to be aware of statutory sick pay, holidays, minimum net wage and the need for a contract of employment. Hours of work must be made clear, as must the duties expected of the nanny/mother's help.
